This evening will feature four rufus poets reading from their most recent publications and works-in-progress. Michael Lee Rattigan will read from his Fernando Pesso/Alberto Caeiro translations and his own work in Nature Notes and Liminal; Gill Gregory will read from In Slow Woods and Dawn-Bear, an upcoming chapbook; Will Stone will read from amongst his myriad translations and from his own poems, which he is in the midst of writing for The Sleepwalkers that will be published next year; and Matthew Francis will read from Whereabouts, along with his newest collection from Faber & Faber, Muscovy.

SPRING BOOK LAUNCH PÉTER CSERHÁTI: HIDDEN TREASURES IN WOODCARVING, SCULPTURE, AND SKETCHES WITH EKPHRASTIC POEMS BY JOHN REIBETANZ AND EDITED AND WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY VAJAY EMŐKE CSERHÁTI

This Sunday afternoon book launch celebrated the publication of artworks by Péter Cserháti (mainly woodcarvings), with a selection of ekphrastic poems read by John Reibetanz. An introduction to the artist was also made by Gordon Becker, an award-winning wood sculptor who was once a pupil of Péter Cserháti's. A number of the artworks were on display, seemingly glowing in the atmospheric Upper Library at Massey College. It was truly a wonderful occasion: "happy, civilised, welcoming, simply glorious".

The Artesian/Light and Shadow Salon Evening will be a unique event of live music, films, and readings by contributors to the upcoming issue of Artesian, including Jeremy Clarke whose third installment of 'Walking in Beauty' will be published in the journal. He has, however, chosen to read from Incidents of Travel, the forthcoming chapbook from rufus books as the issue - and the evening - will be offering "personal, passionate, lyrical and luminous responses to the ceaselessly rewarding questions of the air and its meanings, from breath to song, storm to space, surveillance to sea-bed reflections, and much much more", the sea-bed reflections being his. All welcome.

This evening featured Jeremy Clarke's rendition of 'Walking in Beauty', a long poem that was published in the 2010 third issue of Artesian magazine (focusing on all aspects of 'time' and featuring original work by John Berger, Susan Derges and Iain Sinclair among many others) and the first in a trilogy entitled Hands from a Hidden Country that will be forthcoming from rufus books at a future date. It was an intimate occasion with St Pancras Old Church lit only by candle-light where Jeremy spoke, rather than read, the entire poem from memory.
